SuperTalent has presented a few hours ago a new generation of SSD drives, the second for them. As expected bring some improvements to performance level, but are not figures that we have not seen on other devices. In the case of the products presented today we talk about PCI-Express storage, rather than the more conventional SSD (2.5 inch format.) SuperTalent CoreStore 2 are called and it is a small card that plugs into one of the PCI-Express slots on the motherboard without any wires.
Versions will be sold between 16 and 128 GB, both MLC and SLC models. Yields, as mentioned above, not surprising if we look at other products on the market for the same purpose: to serve as internal storage. We talk about the latest OCZ Vertex 3 promising around 500 MB / s in both reading and writing.
In the case of CoreStore SuperTalent 2 figures are far below on the 350 MB / s read and 80 or 220 MB / s writing, depending on whether the device is SLC (Single-level Cell) and MLC (Multi Cell-level). Still, although the comparison with the Vertex 3 may leave us somewhat distant, the CoreStore 2 is a solid-state drives very interesting and excellent qualities.
We'll see what price - not yet confirmed - and hopefully going for PCI-Express are cheaper than an other SSD market. In this case it may be an ideal product for our desktops.
