Google has introduced a new Gmail feature called Google Desktop Notification, which notifies you of incoming email via a pop-up on the desktop, this has been possible thanks to some features of HTML5, and you can manage this function from the control panel Gmail. Currently this feature is only accessible to those who use the browser Chrome, but Google is already working to create plug-in for Firefox and Internet Explorer.
In the options of this new feature you can also choose the notification for received instant messages and emails regarding the user can decide whether to activate the notification for all new messages, or only those identified as a priority.
