Record year for video, classroom and at home

2010, "record year" for admissions: According to figures Médiamétrie, French theaters last year have produced their best performance since ... 1967. With 206.5 million admissions in the year 2010 was an excellent year for cinemas. A figure all the more remarkable that no film has beaten record in 2010: no film has surpassed the six million entries, which is rare, but 16 feature films have surpassed three million spectators an exceptional figure.

For the National Federation of French Cinemas (FNCF), these results are primarily the result of modernization efforts made by the rooms, whether 3D or digital projection. The FNCF also note that the increase in attendance primarily benefits the upgraded rooms, those who could not invest or less do not benefit from this growth.

These excellent results are not confined to movie theaters: the market for home video has also performed well, driven by video on demand (VOD) and Blu-Ray. Down last year, video on physical media rose 1% in units (94.8 million) for a turnover of 1.38 billion euros. VOD, though it remains comparatively low in terms of turnover (135 million), experienced a 40% increase over 2009.

Performance as the Union of digital video editing (SEVN) attributed primarily to the "new media chronology" is to say, the shortening of time between theatrical release and distribution on DVD, Blu-Ray and VOD. If SEVN also welcomes "the ongoing effort in the fight against piracy in particular through the action of Internet Piracy", the impact of the action of the High Authority, difficult to assess, not about the whole year, Hadopi who conducted the first to send mails in October.
