One of the biggest attractions of MWC 2011 has been, without doubt, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the upcoming PlayStation Phone. Yes, a phone half way between your PSP handheld console to match any Sony Ericsson Xperia family, its high-end handsets. Sony Ericsson Xperia Play stands for a feature that no other terminal of the market can offer: game slide controls.
Slide the back of the terminal and there we have the control buttons, address both the pad and four buttons PlayStation classic teams, and we all know. To this we must add a couple of tactile controls (like a joystick) and two top buttons, L1 and R1, and the usual Select and Start. What about the new mobile-Sony console? The first thing that enters our eyes, as always, the design.
Xperia Play is very carefully following the line of the latest products from Sony Ericsson presented these days, but by prioritizing the external appearance have been neglected some important details. For example, the answer to a question that many will have in mind: is it a comfortable terminal? Not too ..
As we say, seems to be a terminal which has prioritized the design of ergonomics and comfort. This is not to say that it is completely unusable, because it is not: Xperia Play can take but there are certain forms of management that are uncomfortable. There is no problem to manage as traditional mobile Xperia Play through the touch screen.
No problems about it, though. However, when you move the slider the going gets rough. The top buttons and joysticks (we did not get to work) are quite uncomfortable, as they are outside the area where they reach our thumbs, or at least in an extreme situation. The four directional buttons and four control (X, square, circle and triangle) are very small compared with the control buttons on a PS3 DualShock or earlier, and will cost them fit.
Play Sony Ericsson Xperia we have emphasized that it is a fun machine, a portable console. However we must not forget that its main function is to serve as mobile. Based on Android 2.3 (currently in version 2.3.2), the system moves very well, very fast and responds perfectly, as Android few do.
To say that the terminal is critical for not putting a lot of dual-core processor, but the truth is we do not need and that what you have works as expected. Nor expect graphics to match the PS3, which does seem to come with the NGP. Xperia Play offers graphics somewhat higher than those of any other mobile, but not excessively.
Play to forget that there is ... yes, a cell phone. There are still many details to be specified. Already confirmed to appear with a succulent initial catalog of games, but need to know your prices and also their quality. Of course, price and release date are still ... yes, unknown. It is important to note that the concept of classical and mobile handheld was not given before the Xperia Play, or at least had not so clearly.
We'll see how users behave, but it seems clear that either is a complete success and feel the future Chair of the mobile world ... or is it a complete failure. I personally do not see a waypoint. Buzz In Tech News | Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, MWC 2011.
