An IBM computer, a favorite in a television contest

IBM repeats the challenge of facing the machine to man. He did it in 1997 when Deep Blue defeated chess champion Garry Kasparov. Now, IBM Watson will present his computer to a TV quiz. This week the company has made a test with real contestants, two of the most notable winners in the history of the competition, Watson beat them.

The contest will be held in mid February. Watson is able to query a database equivalent to 200 million pages in three seconds thanks to its Linux-equipped servers, 15 terabytes of RAM, 2,880 processors that can perform 80 trillion operations per second. Engadget has posted a video of the test.

One of the biggest challenges facing the machine, including human speech and respond orally, decryption if the question contains some element of irony or metaphor. Watson won the two rivals try by answering correctly human and offered the three responses had been assessed and the degree of success he attributed to each.

IBM has developed a video presentation of the supercomputer. If you win the competition, the profits will go to charitable funds. In the test session, Watson won $ 4,400 while its competitors were bagged 3,400 and 1,200. For IBM, which has spent four years working on the project is to highlight the advances in artificial intelligence.
