A Danish artist has been temporarily banned from Facebook for putting his profile on the painting The Origin of the World by Gustave Courbet, and have thus violated the rules of the social network. "This is an unreasonable censorship, especially as this famous painting, part of the French cultural heritage, was intended to illustrate my comments on a television DR2 [the second public television channel] sex nude" Frode said Steinicke to.
Facebook has disabled their profile quickly, explaining that its rules prohibiting nudity among others, to ensure that Facebook "remains a virtual environment safe to visit, including the many children who use it." The artist had, in a message sent to Facebook, "regretted his actions" made "by mistake" because "ignoring these rules." His profile was reactivated, but without reproducing the picture of Courbet painting, "one of his masterpieces exhibited at the Musée d'Orsay" in Paris, and who "did nothing pornographic," he said.
