Steve Jobs unveils the new iPad

The Apple boss Steve Jobs is out of his sick leave, Wednesday, March 2, to present the new version of the iPad tablet computer. "It's been quite some time that we are working on this product, and I did not miss a fantastic day," Mr. Jobs said at a conference in San Francisco. With the approach of this presentation, speculation about the presence of Steve Jobs had almost eclipsed the rumors about the new iPad.

Mr. Jobs introduced a iPad 2 "dramatically faster" than the original thanks to a new processor dual heart, called A5. The unit is also lighter (590 grams instead of 680) and equipped with front and back cameras to include video conferencing. Available in black or white, the iPad 2 keeps the same price, however, between 499 and 829 dollars (360 and 600 euros) depending on the version, and the same battery (ten hours of use on average).

INCREASED COMPETITION Mr. Jobs acknowledged that this update might be responding to competition from new devices, whereas with 15 million copies sold in 2010, Apple claimed about 90% market share. "Will 2011 be the year copies? Perhaps a bit if we did nothing," he said. But in fact, "2011 is clearly the year of the iPad 2", he said.

The firm hopes to sell to the apple more than 30 million touch pads this year, generating revenues of nearly $ 20 billion (14.4 billion euros). Monday, Motorola's Mobility CEO, Sanjay Jha, has ensured that sales of its shelf Xoom, running the Google Android Honeycomb, had "started well" last week, but without giving numbers, while costs rather more expensive than the iPad.

Samsung sells for several months his Galaxy Tab, and Hewlett-Packard has announced its TouchPad for next summer. As Research in Motion, rumors ran Wednesday on the April launch of its playbook. The sale of the iPad 2 intervene less than a year after the release of the original, from the March 11 U.S.

and two weeks later in twenty-six other countries, including France. To learn more: "iPad 2, second episode of the 'battle of the shelves"
