Researchers: Google operating system overhauled Nokia

From fourth best in the world: Google's Android operating system dominates the smartphone market worldwide. Estimated 101 million smart phones, manufacturers have shipped worldwide in the fourth quarter of 2010 - one in three runs with Google software. Microsoft loses slightly below average, and Google growing Nokia wins by far.


Accordingly, the amount of delivered smartphones in the fourth quarter of 2010 has grown year on year by 88 percent to 101.2 million units. The installed operating systems, only Google's Android platform wins above average, from 4.7 to 33.3 million smartphones shipped - more than 600 percent growth.

Apple increases by 85.90 percent (to 16.2 million shipped iPhones). All other platforms grow under average, Microsoft loses the only vendor: smart phone manufacturers have delivered, according to Canalys, in the fourth quarter of 2010, just 3.1 million devices with Microsoft operating system, 800,000 fewer than in the same period of 2009.
