I do not think you do need to explain that this is a conceptual camera, but it is interesting to recreations appeared on your website took shape in the past CES 2011. WVIL is the name of the invention and is packed with innovative ideas. The device name comes from "Wireless Viewfinder Interchangeable Lens", or what we might describe as a sensor coupled to the lens by hand, with the electronic viewfinder (mobile phone) connected wirelessly to it.
What is really interesting is that the camera can take snapshots or video with the lens separated from the body, but I think it's best to see a video to understand the novelty of the whole: Entering specifications, we find a full-size sensor (Full Frame) of 31.6 megapixels, which can be fitted with saddles as lenses known as EF Canon, Leica M, Nikon F, and even the new Micro Four Thirds.
On the other side of the puzzle we have a phone with a screen of enormous dimensions, namely 5-inch full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels). Decoupled from the lens, and an appropriate operating system we could use as tablet / phone, which in fact is the idea of its developers. But harnessing the potential of geolocation applications or Internet connectivity to make the experience more complete picture.
WVIL has been created by German design group called artifacts, and was born with the mission of uniting the quality of professional lenses and sensors, connectivity and applications that provide us with mobile phones. As a climax came the possibility that both parties work separate but connected wirelessly.
Regardless of the status of the project and its viability, I do not deny that the idea is very well run and presented, hopefully not stay on the road. I forgot, the wireless system between the lens / sensor and the phone is Wireless HD. Official Site | Artefact.
