AMD 6990, leading the new graphics card and dual core AMD

We started the morning with the AMD 6990, the new AMD graphics card. His release was expected for months, and after GTX 580 looked like a sure bet. AMD has always placed a step behind Nvidia in terms of raw power ... until today. AMD 6990 is presented as the most powerful graphics card market, although trap, yes, integrates two 40-nanometer GPU, specifically the 6970 model of AMD that promise very high performance.

But it does not stop here. This beast offers dual BIOS to be the fetish of the users who will practice overclocking on it, a devilish features and a few still affordable. Not everything would be good, of course. These are the features and technical specifications of the AMD 6990 with default settings: One of the features that draw the attention of the AMD 6990 is double that incorporates factory BIOS.

AMD takes something that we have seen in certain motherboards and implements it in its most advanced new graphics card. With this system, AMD has two configurations: one standard and one slightly overclocked, the main difference is that the GPU clock is increased from the 830 to 880 MHz This results in a higher yield (about + about 3%) but significantly higher consumption from 350 to 415 watts average.

Will the user can choose which BIOS to use, for which only have to slip a small tab on the card. It is not known what are the conditions for change, for example if the computer must be turned off. This dual BIOS itself will not prevent the user from making an even more intense overclocking on the graphics card.

The performance of the AMD 6990 is, as expected of it spectacular. According to AMD's own analysis of talk about a +67% compared with the NVidia GTX 580, which is a very significant increase. Obviously we have to take these data with caution, all from the card manufacturer's own recently launched.

To check the final performance better check the independent analysis of web pages. AMD is no doubt that 6990 will be able to run any game, and any configuration. It, like other components such as Intel Core i7-990x, a product designed almost exclusively for overclocking, to be shown at fairs and little else.

Probably few of you - I bet a beer that no one - would buy, because there are many other interesting models for use in our home computers. Right? In addition to overclocking, AMD 6990 also has a Eyefinity AMD technology in the spotlight. Much has been talked about it, but still not commonplace in our homes.

Its main purpose is to dispose a maximum of 6 monitors with one graphics card. For this, the 6990 integrates a DVI AMD-four miniDisplayPort, outputs more than enough for most classic configurations in our homes, one or two monitors at most, reaching three in the most extreme cases. With the 6990 can use up to 5 monitors settings in different situations.

AMD has confirmed that all 6990 miniDisplayPort include an adapter to HDMI, in addition to two miniDisplayPort a SL-DVI. The AMD 6990, like much of the hardware market to the fore, has its place in the home, as already discussed. It is a spectacular model we all want, but because of the price you have - and later comment - is a product that escapes within reasonable limits for any user.

This does not mean that if someone wants to indulge can not be bought, of course. But there are much better alternatives in money, not to mention also that its energy consumption is too high. In the section on operating temperatures seems that AMD has managed to solve with a single fan located between the two GPUs and their fans.

6990 Surely this is closer to 90 degrees in Full, a decent number though improved. If you want the best graphics card is present then the 6990 is your choice, waiting for the expected features NVidia NVidia GTX 590 which is expected to be even better than 6990 of which we speak today. And it is to fall, warning.

The price of AMD 6990 in Spain is 599 euros, the highest of the current generation and around 150 euros more than the GTX 580. Is expected to begin arriving in the shops over the coming days.
