AMD Bulldozer will not be backwards: hi AM3 +

One of the most active rumors in recent weeks talking about the expected backward compatibility of the new processors from AMD Bulldozer current sockets, referring more specifically to AM3 using virtually all motherboards these platforms. AMD was expected to offer this backward due to the great history that the manufacturer has written, with new products that can be used on platforms at least a generation ago.

But everything suggests that traditional backward break with the Bulldozer, since they require the use of the new socket AM3 +. The technical features are still unknown, but will not physically. Full stop, no more discussion. The reasons are that AMD can still uncertain, but this seems to be confirmed unofficially from the manufacturer, specifically in the words of one of its directors, John Fruehe, director of product marketing.

Although there will be backward into old sockets (ie, Bulldozer will not work on AM3 and earlier, if only in AM3 +) itself can be installed on existing AM3 + processors designed for AM3. "Trouble? Yes, the truth is a bit like that. Another aspect to consider is that there will be AM3 motherboards for Bulldozer + but with the current AMD 800 Series chipsets, and they will surely be the first to appear on the market.

A few months - or weeks - later is when we will see AMD 900 Series chipsets in action. From my point of view it is best to wait long enough to bet on the new generation, it is still important and very good improvements over previous models. And all this for a while? Insurance in 2011, although there is much rumor and there is nothing contradictory official or anything, but hopefully that is soon enough to offset the great attack Intel Core 2nd Gen.

PS: the world of bulldozers, and more generally, of all industrial machinery, is fascinating. Image | MathKnigth in Wikipedia. Track | Softpedia, CHW.
