Assange distinguished in Australia

The Sydney PeaceFoundation Foundation has awarded Wednesday to founder of Wikileaks, Australian Julian Assange, his gold medal to honor his "outstanding courage in defending human rights." It is one of the most prestigious awards in Australian defense of human rights. If the peace prize is awarded annually for fourteen years, the gold medal was awarded to three others, the Dalai Lama, former South African president Nelson Mandela and Japanese Daisaku Ikeda of the Buddhist association Soka Gakkai.

The foundation paid tribute to Mr Assange for his determination to get more transparency on the part of governments questioning of centuries of practice of secrecy. " By distributing thousands of diplomatic cables where U.S. diplomats exposed frankly their views on current international events, Wikileaks has triggered widespread reactions of frustration and anger in Tech News Buzz, but also caused deep embarrassment for U.S.

authorities. Wikileaks has also released thousands of documents relating to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Julian Assange, 39, is currently under house arrest in Britain for a case of sexual abuse allegedly committed in Sweden in August 2010. He has always denied the charges against him.

His supporters believe he is actually the victim of a conspiracy after the disclosure of thousands of documents by Wikileaks.
