The U.S. supplier of microprocessors AMD (Advanced Micro Devices), not general manager since January, announced on Thursday, August 25, the appointment as CEO Rory Read, former chief operating officer of computer manufacturer Lenovo. The appointment of new boss, aged 49, is effective this Thursday, the company said in a statement.
"Rory is a leader who has proven and has been responsible in the past impressive growth of profitability," said the President of the Board Bruce Claflin, quoted in the document. "He is ideally placed to accelerate the progression of AMD to the top spot in the market for microprocessor design", currently occupied by Intel, he added.
A Lenovo, where he remained for five years, Rory Read is "responsible for managing the group on a daily basis while being in charge of developing and implementing the growth strategy of the group," said AMD. In this position "has helped the company penetrate new markets dynamic and won market share," said Claflin.
Read Rory OLD IBM had previously worked at IBM for 23 years. AMD "has the opportunity to continue to gain market share while remaining profitable, thanks to these highly differentiated products, its solid financial foundation," said the new boss. Thomas Seifert, who served as acting director since the resignation of Dirk Meyer in January, will return to his duties as CFO.
