The U.S. space agency NASA announced Monday, Dec. 27 it had granted to Hewlett-Packard a contract of 2.5 billion dollars (1.89 billion euros) for the supply of most of its computers and software and peripherals and mobile computing. "This fixed price contract, with delivery and indefinite quantity, has a maximum value of 2.5 billion dollars with an initial period of four years and two option periods of three years," said NASA in a statement.
NASA said the contract with the Californian giant would also be responsible to "provide, manage, secure and maintain" the computer equipment used by its staff in its research activities and others. LOCKHEED MARTIN ÉVINCÉCe is not the first time the leader of the mainstream computing is becoming a supplier to the U.S. space agency. In 2007, the company is headquartered in Palo Alto, California, won a contract term of 7 years and a $ 5.6 billion (4.23 billion euros) , said the specialized site CNet. The U.S. defense company Lockheed Martin, who was also vying for the contract, said she was "disappointed that NASA has chosen another solution," in an email sent to BusinessWeek site.
