Sony Vaio C Series, first impressions

This past Wednesday held the traditional annual convention of Sony in Japan that the company presented all its developments in computing, image and sound, cameras and electronic book 2011. In Tech News Buzz again we take the bundle over his shoulder to tell you first hand what they look like the new Sony models.

Almost inevitably begin with the new Sony Vaio C Series range, that stands out to tens of meters. The laptops of this family have opted for the design and color. They are the finest, or the lightest nor the most powerful, but certainly take the prize for the most striking and configuration falls short of being named Vaio.

The design of the Series C is, at least, original. The top cover has been coated with an acrylic-like material and painted with fluorescent colors. Just the slightest light for the portable surface sparkle like a Christmas tree. The rest of the carcass, plastic polishing, accompanied by the tone of the cover.

Externally, the Vaio C series are not particularly thin and its weight is about average. They measure 235 × 341 × 27.9 mm and weighs 2.45 pounds, battery included. Despite this, very well equipped in connection with VGA, HDMI with 3D support, Ethernet, 3 USB 2.0 and USB 3.0, SD card slot or Memory Stick with its variants.

It also incorporates WiFi N and Bluetooth 2.1. The original keyboard of the Vaio C series of Chiclet, is black or white (depending on model), with white backlight. However, Sony has expanded its idea of keyboard covers that we saw in the Series F, and several covers available in bright colors.

The backlight, with the cover on, it still works but obviously with much less intensity. As for the trackpad, is fused with the rest of the case and has small raised dots to help keep your fingers inside. The screen, which is 14 inches diagonally, is a LED and 16:9 format 1366 x 768 resolution.

The output is fully compatible with high definition, although it is missing and can not have 1080p native resolution. The webcam on the screen is a 1.3 megapixel (1280 × 1024) and has been enhanced with Sony's Exmor technology to deal with tricky lighting conditions. Internally, the Vaio C series processor equipped with a 2.30GHz Intel Core i5 with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 320GB hard drive at 5400 RPM and AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics with 512MB of memory.

The sound is run by very powerful speakers but not compatible with Dolby positional audio. Batteries are a point that obscures rather the overall color of the Serie C. Nominally have a battery life of 3.5 hours that we fear that comes at 3 in actual use. The Vaio C series are some teams really striking, but we are definitely not convinced that the differentiating factor design is sufficient to raise the price to 900 euros.

The configuration of the Series C is complete, but the high price makes us miss Blu-Ray, something lighter, more battery and better screen resolution. Unless the design of the Series C we fell in love at first sight, the new Vaio S Series also is a far better alternative to autonomy, weight and performance.

Shortly after I do the corresponding S-Series so that you can compare.
