The EU is investigating whether the operators blocking Internet traffic

Clarion call of the EU telecom operators on net neutrality: "It is good to slow down Skype or similar services. It is contrary to competition. It is not right to defraud consumers with Internet speed" . The vice president of the EU today announced that for the time and investigate these practices, if companies behave badly, at the end of the year the Commission published the list with the names of the companies that made these "questionable practices." The Commission has asked the European Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications an investigation to verify whether operators unduly block or reduce the speed of voice over IP (VoIP), Skype.

The process also involved telecommunications regulators from all Member States, such as Market Commission, a country where the operators report their conditions to be performed using these restrictions in their mobile Internet services, as called for by Brussels. The EU executive also wants to examine if the connection speeds offered by providers correspond to the contract and whether there are barriers for users to quickly switch company.

As of May 25 when it enters into force on Telecom legislative package, the consumer must be able to number portability on a weekday, for example. The research objective is to "ensure that citizens and businesses in the EU can enjoy the benefits of an open and neutral Internet, no hidden restrictions and speed promised by the suppliers," as explained by the vice president of the Commission and responsible Telecommunications, Neelie Kroes.

The Commissioner notes that review "in particular cases of blockage or unannounced rate reduction of certain types of traffic and also cases of misleading advertising about the speed of broadband." And if not satisfied, do not hesitate to propose "tougher measures, which may take the form of guidelines or even legislation.
