Intel Announces Transistor 3D

World number one microprocessor Intel announced Wednesday, May 4, a new breakthrough in the history of microprocessors, saying for the first time able to include a transistor chips in three dimensions, for more efficient appliances. "Scientists and engineers at Intel have once again reinvented the transistor, this time using the third dimension," said Intel CEO Paul Otellini said in a statement.

Transistors are the basic components of all electronic circuits, which enable the management of electrical current. The new model called "Tri-Gate", which was designed in 2002 but expected to go into large scale production this summer, will be incorporated in a microprocessor etching of 22 nanometers, called "Ivy Bridge".

REDUCED ENERGY CONSUMPTION According to Intel, this is the first time in fifty years that the existing silicon transistors, a three-dimensional model can be produced on a large scale. The idea is to stack the items instead of putting them side by side in the same way that a skyscraper would have more capabilities than many houses placed side by side.

The advantage would be to provide portable devices sector increasingly strategic for manufacturers, more power in less exhausting the batteries. "The gains in performance and energy savings provided by these transistors are unlike anything we've seen so far, has secured a manager at Intel, Mark Bohr.

This goes far beyond what we see Normally when we pass from one generation to another "microprocessors.
