3D TV glasses confusion

LG and Philips have decided to launch 3D television technology that lets you view images in three dimensions with glasses lighter and cheaper than active polarization used so far, why not take batteries or switch the image to each eye. Are the same glasses used in cinemas and the effect is very similar.

Because the TV is somewhat cheaper, and above all the glasses, the two companies are confident that this technology will help to popularize passive 3D. Sony, Panasonic and Samsung continue to bet clearly only for active 3D technology because, in his opinion, offers better image quality and visual comfort.

They recognize, however, a limitation that each glasses cost 100 to 150 euros and serve only for a brand. Now we are developing a common emission standard for all 3D TV assets, so that the glasses are independent of the TV. Must be of high quality to avoid flicker, which can not lower the price much.

Passive 3D technology are issued two pictures simultaneously, one for the right eye in the even lines and one for the left in the odd. The TV screen is polarized, so that glasses are also polarized with an eye to the even lines and the other the odd eye. What makes the brain is to bring together the two images and create the illusion of three dimensions.

The resulting 3D image is half the horizontal resolution, 540 lines instead of 1,080 lines that can deliver the active technology. Another drawback is that TVs liabilities have to see farther than assets, a minimum of five feet, to appreciate the 3D feel. What the active 3D TV is to show a complete picture to the right eye and another for the left, two to four times the normal frequency of 50 hertz, and sends a signal to the goggles that plug either eye sequentially .

The timing must be very precise because otherwise you will see a flicker, a danger that exists in the passive technology. Together, we can say that the three-dimensional image is a TV person is sufficiently satisfactory and similar to that achieved with an active television, although very different processes.

Philips and LG also sold TVs active 3D technology, which the user can purchase what they want. The comparison between both systems is very complicated, because it is evaluating a feeling that depends on the quality of the whole and its individual components, the vision of each person, the type of images that are issued and the final calibration of equipment .

The price of both technologies is revealed as a critical factor to evaluate your progress. Input, just any passive glasses, worth less than 20 euros, against 100 euros or more active glasses that cost the brand of the TV. The passive polarized panel is more expensive than non-polarized, but the electronics for the active 3D TV work at the recommended frequency of 200 Hz and signal transmitter are more.

In the end, with a pair of glasses, the difference in favor of passive technology no less than 400 euros. The trend for manufacturers is that all carry high-end televisions 3D. The terminology is also confusing, because it avoids the term liability. Philips 3D Max called to active and passive 3D Easy to, while the passive range of LG is called 3D Cinema.

In the end, are recognized by the bulk of the glasses. LG released in December a 47-inch TV stand but now he has improved and it will take 42, 47 and 55 inches and is backlit with LEDs, when the former was fluorescent. Philips will start with the 32 inches and has three series until the end of the year and Gold very panoramic screen of 21 to 9.
