Sony selects Opera as a browser for their TVs and Blu-ray

The electronics giant Sony and the Norwegian Opera have announced today they have reached an agreement to use the popular web browser on the Sony Bravia line of televisions, and Blu-ray players from the Japanese company . This partnership will allow television celebrities and players, to maximize the Internet connection they have, as Opera will offer its users a full browser with support HTML5, HbbTV and OIPF.

The arrival of the Opera browser, and compliance with key standards, not only a better web browsing experience, but an alternative method to get web-based applications and widgets. As is demonstrated by the statistics, Samsung is working quite well it's business applications in televisions.

Unfortunately they have not finalized what the new model implies, or is something that will come in future products, but it sounds interesting to get TVs with good web experience without having to reach the level of complexity that provides Google TV. Opera is a reference in the field of web browsing despite its small presence in the world of computers, a comparison with developments in Mozilla, Google or Microsoft, but has found a place in other niche products accompanying Nintendo, Philips and Loewe.
