The Elysee and foreign affairs also affected by a computer intrusion

The Ministry of Economy and Finance was not the only target by hackers who managed to penetrate its computer system, according to Liberation, citing a source within the Ministry of Interior Affairs foreign, but also the Elysee have been victims of computer intrusions. Still according to Liberation, all jurisdictions relating to the preparation of the G8 and the G20, comprised 8 and 20 countries "industrialized", were targeted.

European computer networks have also been targeted. The budget minister, Baroin, had confirmed this morning the information of Paris Match that the Ministry of Economy and Finance had been affected by an intrusion Infomat. Discovered in early January, the security flaw has particularly allowed hackers to access documents related to the preparation of the G20 Summit in Cannes in November, and the G8 summit, planned for late May in Deauville.

France holds the rotating presidency since November in the G20 and the G8 on 1 January. Monetary issues, including enhancement of the Chinese Yuan, should be part of the key subjects discussed at these summits. ATTACKS IN CANADA ALSO Pailloux Patrick, director of the National Security Information Systems (Anssi), confirmed this morning that several ministries and the Elysee Palace had been targeted, but said that these attempts have not unsuccessful, and only 150 computers from the Ministry of Finance have been affected.

For Mr. Pailloux, it was an attempt to "pure intelligence". "A lot of information exfiltrées" by cyber criminals were "very mundane" but there were "too sensitive elements," he acknowledged. Last month, the Canadian Department of Treasury had confirmed that he suffered a massive computer intrusion.

The Canadian government had refused to explain what information had been accessed by intruders, merely asserting that the tax data were not affected. The extent of piracy, as well as his professional and careful targeting, suggest he could be coordinated by intelligence agencies with extensive resources.

Pointed at in February by the Canadian security services, China had strongly denied any involvement, direct or indirect.
