Nintendo's profit falls 9 months, despite a good third quarter

The Japanese video game giant Nintendo has reported, Thursday, January 26, a net profit down 74% year on year to 49.6 billion yen (452 million euros) for the first nine months of 2010 - 2011. Between April and December 2010, Nintendo has a turnover totaled only 808 billion yen (7.35 billion euros), sharply down from 31.7% a year, after a plunge of 23% already had One year ago, due to poor sales of consoles and the negative impact of exchange rates.

The holiday season year end, splendor for entertainment, however, allowed the group to become profitable again, as he posted a net loss after just the first half (April to September). COMPETITION FOR SONY Nintendo recognizes that its portable consoles, the Nintendo DS will sell less well, as the Wii home models, which leads to less demand for related games.

In the case of DS, potential customers probably expect the new version, the 3DS, with a screen displaying images in three dimensions. This new console will be released February 26 in Japan and a month later in Europe, USA and Australia. But Nintendo will have to prepare for increased competition.

Sony just announced it would launch a new handheld console, code-named NGP (Next Generation Mobile "), compatible with mobile networks of third generation (3G).
