Dell Vostro V130, analysis

The Dell Vostro V130 is a different handset. Since its launch had a huge desire to have him in my hands for two reasons: first, because the hardware is very decent and balanced a laptop, and second because I was completely seduced by its design. After some weeks of use I must admit that I was not disappointed.

We are a team that has a very decent performance, more than enough for normal users and even for someone looking for something else. Intel Core i3 is to blame, it has proved a perfect platform for everyday use. Our test team has the following features: There are no words to explain the grand design of the Vostro V130.

Our team has the front in red, with a metallic appearance and very consistent. Virtually the entire device is red, including the bottom, and only the keyboard, the screen frame and the top and bottom of the notebook is black plastic. The difference between these parts and aluminum is abysmal, like night and day, and would have been preferable to include a material that was at the height of red aluminum instead of plastic very typical and classic.

Although this is not poor quality, much less. It is, as we saw after the launch, very thin: 19.7 mm at the widest part of staying at 16.5 at its finest. These 3.2 mm is the width of the screen. The pileup in general is also cucada you can move easily due to its weight of 1.59 kg, including battery - integrated - from six cells.

If the screen is 13 inches, the ideal size for a laptop in my point of view, albeit with a heap enough resolution: 1,366 x 768 pixels. Given its size the keyboard is full size and has a small distance between the keys themselves, something very common in recent years. It is quite comfortable, although this being a very personal aspect will not insist too much.

In regard to the trackpad is neither good nor bad, but enough of the heap. Its physical dimensions are 80 × 45 mm, to add the two buttons for the mouse. One positive aspect is that it is a multitouch trackpad that accepts some gestures with our fingers, like the vertical scroll useful. Perhaps one of the most controversial aspects is the connections, as they all are in the back, behind the screen.

Neither the front or side have even a USB port, more than a SD card slot on the right. For anything we have to turn around the computer and connect there. Somewhat uncomfortable, of course. Must mention also that the connections are not much: a pair of USB ports, VGA and video outputs HDMI, one eSATA (which can also function as USB) and Ethernet network connection, as well of course the connector supply.

Although for the vast majority will be more than enough, the Vostro V130 is far less complete in this respect compared with other laptops. It is also true that the design is not comparable with that of the majority, the reason for the lack of connections is precisely due to the thinness and the limited space available to implement other interfaces.

Our Dell Vostro V130 has some very nice features. Adapted almost the last we'll find an Intel Core i3-380UM, model Ultra-Low Voltage processor designed to provide decent performance with maximum energy efficiency. GPU has integrated into the CPU itself, which is not far from an ideal computer for video games.

Rounding out the features 4 GB of DDR3 memory, enough for the average user today. The operating system, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, move very fast and stable in any situation. The most common applications in the home have no problems in running a very successful. Obviously we have not tested with professional cutting software, something like CAD, 3D rendering, or similar, because this team is not for it.

Weakens the thing video game, but as we have said this is not its purpose. We just tested basic titles like Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead 2 and the like, and although you can play them it seems clear that the experience is very different compared to other more powerful computer. The fps rate is between about 20 and 30 fps, values \u200b\u200bthat can be played but not optimal and do not provide the gaming experience to be desired.

At the time you execute a more powerful game you can imagine what the team's response: grim. The battery of the Dell Vostro V130 is one of its weaknesses. First, because it is integrated in the equipment itself and can not be exchanged by the user. This should be a huge range as we have seen in the last MacBook Pro, with around 7 hours long, right? Not really.

The autonomy of the Dell Vostro V130 actual use round after two hours, three if we force. And this despite the fact that Intel and Dell activated by default certain utilities that optimize the consumer theory in order to achieve the highest number possible. Obviously at the moment in which one of our applications make use excessive CPU or GPU will be taking away minutes from autonomy to each load.

To this we must add that we are talking about a notebook designed to withstand without being plugged in, given the integration of Intel Core i3-380UM, low voltage and provide a priori long range. Vostro V130 battery does not last long, but neither team will allow us to enjoy for more than a couple of hours before connecting to power.

Dell Vostro V130 is a laptop to work in 3D design, or to demand a lot. No team has the characteristics of terrain as their own Dell Latitude or Precision. In fact, the Vostro has always been the basic range for professionals, and the V130 is the first Vostro that is also distributed to individuals.

We must also bear in mind that we are talking about a team that includes dedicated GPU, but a model built into the Intel Core i3, this being the last generation and not a Sandy Bridge of the last batch, which has proved GPU much more efficient than the one used in this i3-UM380. System performance is very good, but it is there: in the actual performance of the system and basic applications which, incidentally, are usually the most use.

Web browsers, multimedia applications, office automation and the entire category of programs. In the time that we demand an extra yield is shown how this Vostro V130 is designed for it, showing rather slowly. For example, before a more demanding game or application. But this has not be bad.

Each handset market and we who, depending on how you use are going to give, choose one or the other model. In the case that concerns us today, the Dell Vostro V130, must recognize that a laptop is great for the average user, one who wants to make a basic use it to surf the Internet and four more.

Accepted basic game, but go beyond it's dangerous and it is true that there are better alternatives. In favor of the Vostro V130 is excellent, most excellent design, without a doubt one of the best I've ever seen on a laptop. Unfortunately, the red color does not exist in our country, at least for now, and only distributed in a single gray model.

The price of the Dell Vostro V130 starts in Spain in the 671-euro at i3 380UM, 2 GB of DDR3 RAM and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Note that our test team has 4 GB, which is somewhat higher price. In all cases, the Vostro V130 is now available in Spain at the Dell Official Store for our country.
