The Department of Finance Canada suffered a massive piracy

The Canadian Department of Finance and the Treasury Board, the body responsible for the management of state services, have been the target of a large-scale piracy in early January, says the Canadian Press. The source of the attack seemed to emanate from China, but it is impossible to say whether the attackers were or Chinese or used servers located in China to hide their tracks.

According to several sources within the department, or the hackers managed to take control of multiple workstations in the Ministry of Finance, which gave them access to different passwords and data, but do not know yet which ones. The government has acknowledged that hacking took place but refused to recognize its magnitude.

DRASTIC MEASURES When the intrusion was detected, the Canadian security services have taken drastic measures: they cut across the internet access within the premises of the Ministry of Finance, in an attempt to prevent data can be transmitted to the outside. Network access has since been gradually restored, but the services of the department have idled for several weeks.

A year ago, in January 2010, Google claimed to have been hacked like the part of Chinese attackers. Dubbed "Operation Aurora", the attack had caused a major diplomatic conflict between Washington and Beijing, the U.S. accusing China of indirectly involved in these attacks, which it denies.
