"Microsoft understands the humanistic values of France"

Nicolas Sarkozy presented on Wednesday, the Legion of Honor to Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft. "I admire this company, which includes the humanistic values of France and Europe," said Nicolas Sarkozy, about Microsoft, which employs about 1,700 people in France. "We're proud that you are in France," he added.

Mr. Ballmer has said, in French, "moved and proud" to be decorated, and said that France was "a land of innovation." "She is attractive. It has great potential to be a leader in international economic competition," he added. Above all, Mr. Ballmer said that "the decision (by Mr Sarkozy) to the agenda of the G8 civilized Internet is important." Nicolas Sarkozy, chairing in 2011 the G8 and G20, wants to launch international discussions on the advent of a "civilized Internet", a concept relatively vague contours, which includes both the fight against downloading illegal and blocking illegal sites.
