Great little e-book publishers and accelerate

LONDON - In 2010 the Italian market for e-book was worth 2.6% of that in Europe. Translated into euro in the case of two million or so. A niche, then, but this is only the beginning. Also because the € 70-80 million spent last year in the old continent for the purchase of electronic books are destined to multiply in a few years.

If today, e-books represent between 0.5% and 0.6% of the continental market of the book (0.2% in Italy) by 2014 this percentage will be multiplied by 10 to reach a share between 6% and 7%. To provide these data, the first ever Europe, was a study conducted together by AT Kerney, international consulting firm and Bookrepublic Italian distributor of digital books.

The occasion: the Milan summit "If Then Book" organized by Bookrepublic attended by 280 representatives of Italian and European publishing world. THE DOCUMENT The scenery is fascinating in old Europe's purchases of electronic books are in fact only started last year. In short, we have five years of delay on the U.S.

that now cover between 8% and 10% of their sales through downloading files from the main electronic libraries for a total estimated turnover of between 700 and 800 million euro. And even though our growth will be slower than the American that it is possible that the gap distances us from the U.S.

tends to decrease gradually. If this is the frame, it is up to Britain the lion's share. The British, in fact, firms which 65% of European purchases. A record achieved thanks to the availability of half a million titles and 1.6 million from the Kindle device iPad all other e-reader. In second place here in Germany: one hundred thousand titles and 800 000 device for a share of nearly 26% of European sales.

As for Italy, fourth behind France, reflects a particularly low number of certificates (7 thousand against 50 thousand of the French) and the consistency of the "machinery" appears more balanced: 470 000 600 000 against the side of the Alps. However it is said that the Bel Paese is intended to make the Cinderella of Europe.

The editors present, in fact, seem determined to press on the accelerator of development. The confirmation Formenton Luca, head of the Assayer ("we have almost everything on the catalog e-books") and certify Vittorio Bo, Code Publisher: "Fifty out of 170 titles are already in electronic form and in just six months the daily sales nearly tripled.

" While Marco Ferrario, founder of Bookrepublic launched a publishing house "40k", published only e-book in 5 different languages. "Among the opportunities offered by e-book," said Mike Shatzkin, e-book guru and founder of The Idea Logical Company, "it is possible to break down language barriers becoming a global publishers."
